What is a brand video for an AEC firm?
A brand video is a short film that shows who your firm is and why it matters: your people, your projects, and your point of view, told with real footage instead of stock. It is different from a corporate video, which explains what a firm does. A brand film makes an owner, a recruit, or a trade partner feel something about the firm before they ever sit in a shortlist interview.
For architecture, engineering, and construction firms, the raw material is unusually good. Jobsites at dawn, tunnels, drilling rigs, superintendents who have run the same crew for twenty years. The problem is rarely the story. It is capturing it well, safely, and consistently, without slowing the work down.
Why AEC firms are investing in video
Three reasons keep coming up. Recruiting, because a candidate weighing two offers will watch a two-minute film about your culture before reading a careers page. Business development, because selection committees increasingly meet your firm on LinkedIn and your website before the interview. And events, because a conference or client summit that lives on as a film keeps selling long after the ballroom empties. In an industry where every firm’s proposal says “people, quality, safety,” video is one of the few places you can prove it.
The types of video AEC firms actually use
- Manifesto and brand films—who you are and why it matters, usually the anchor of a rebrand or a new website. See Tenzing One’s brand launch film.
- Recruiting and culture films—built to give a candidate a reason to pick you. JHL Constructors’ “Women in Construction” is one.
- Employee spotlights—a series that puts your people on camera, one at a time. Delve Underground’s spotlight series has run for three years.
- Project and sizzle reels—your work in motion, captured on location. The Anschutz Exploration sizzle was shot on active drilling operations.
- Client testimonials and thought leadership—credible because the people are real. “Has the AEC industry ever been valued correctly?” for AEC Advisors is a scripted example.
- Event sizzle reels—shot, cut, and delivered fast, sometimes before the conference ends. Multi-year coverage for AEC Advisors’ CEO and PE summits, SMPS Amplify A|E|C, and Bisnow.
- Drone—flown by an FAA Part 107 certified pilot, for projects, sites, and the establishing shot every film needs.
Any engagement can add on social cutdowns, so one shoot day feeds LinkedIn, Instagram, proposals, and the careers page for months.
What does AEC brand video cost?
A one-off video package usually runs $25,000–$35,000. Our typical AEC video clients go further: they invest $45,000–$150,000 per year in an ongoing program, because the useful unit isn’t one film; it is a year of coverage. Here is how the options compare, including the in-house alternative:
| Option | Typical investment | What you get | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-off video package | $25K–$35K | A brand or recruiting film, one to two shoot days; social cutdowns available as an add-on | One story, once; the library goes stale within a year |
| Annual video program | $45K–$150K / year | Quarterly shoot days, event coverage, a spotlight series, photography captured alongside | Requires a marketing lead to put the library to work |
| In-house videographer | Salary plus gear, insurance, and drone certification | Always available for quick turns | One person, one skill set; strategy, scripting, and drone rarely come in the same hire |
| Generalist video agency | Varies widely | Polished production | Learns AEC, jobsite safety, and your buyers on your dime |
Bold Brand scopes each engagement around your firm’s goals: a single film or a year-long program, with a defined shoot schedule and deliverables. No surprises.
What to look for in an AEC video producer
Most of what separates a good AEC film from a bad one happens before anyone presses record. Ask whether the crew carries its own PPE and can pass a site safety orientation without a fuss. Ask who is flying the drone and whether they hold an FAA Part 107 certificate. Ask how they handle a superintendent who has a job to run and forty minutes to give you. Ask whether they understand what a shortlist interview, an SOQ, and SMPS are, because a producer who has to learn your industry will get the story wrong in ways you won’t notice until it’s cut.
Then ask to see films for firms like yours, and ask what happened after they were released.

How a Bold Brand video engagement works
We work only with AEC and professional services firms, so nobody learns your industry on your dime. Every engagement starts with the story: what the film needs to do, for whom, and where it will live. From there we plan shoot days around your sites and your people, capture photography alongside the video so the still library keeps pace, and deliver the film, with optional cutdowns sized for every channel you use. Interviews and podcasts can happen at our own Denver studio when a jobsite isn’t the right backdrop. If the film is part of a bigger story, that’s where brand strategy and rebranding comes in.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a brand video cost for an AEC firm?
A one-off video package, typically one flagship brand or recruiting film with a shoot day or two, usually runs $25,000–$35,000. Our typical AEC video clients go further and invest $45,000–$150,000 per year in an ongoing program: quarterly shoot days, event coverage, an employee-spotlight series, and photography captured alongside. Either way the scope is defined up front, so you know the number before you commit.
How long does it take to produce a brand video?
A single brand film typically runs six to ten weeks from kickoff to final delivery: a week or two of planning and scripting, one to three shoot days scheduled around your sites, and three to five weeks of editing with two rounds of revisions. Event sizzle reels are the exception; those are often cut and delivered within days, sometimes before the conference ends.
What is the difference between a brand film and a corporate video?
A corporate video explains what a firm does. A brand film makes people feel something about the firm: it has a point of view, real people on camera, and a story worth sitting through. Both can be useful, but recruiting, business development, and social all reward the second kind.
Can you film on active jobsites?
Yes, and most of our work happens there. Our crews carry their own PPE, follow the site’s safety and access requirements, plan shoots around the superintendent’s schedule, and stay small enough to work inside the fence without slowing the job down. Drone work is flown by an FAA Part 107 certified pilot.
How long should an AEC brand video be?
Long enough to make the point and no longer. Manifesto and recruiting films land best at 90 seconds to three minutes. Employee spotlights and testimonials run two to four minutes. Event recaps sit around 60 to 90 seconds. Every engagement has the ability to add on 15- to 60-second cutdowns for LinkedIn, Instagram, and proposals.
Who owns the footage?
Finished films, social cutdowns, and the photography captured on your shoot days are yours to use across your website, social, proposals, recruiting, and events, with no licensing meter running. Bold Brand LLC retains copyright on all original material, which is the standard arrangement for production work; it never limits how you use what we deliver.
