The Challenge

When we set out to open a professional photo and video rental studio in Denver, we had a launch problem every founder will recognize: no name, no identity, no audience for the studio itself, and a hard opening date. The studio needed to earn interest and early rentals from creators, agencies, and AEC marketers before the doors opened, and it needed to feel like it belonged in the same world as Bold Brand.

We also had a rare opportunity. Fox Photo was an iconic Denver name: a 24-hour film development company that served the city from 1909 to 2001, then disappeared. If the name could be revived, the studio would launch with nearly a century of borrowed goodwill instead of starting from zero.

The Approach

Before a single sketch, we did the homework. We confirmed the original Fox Photo trademark was dead, then filed an intent-to-use application with the USPTO in early 2025 to secure the name for the studio. Both steps were handled in-house.

Then we went digging through the history: original packaging, storefront signage, photo imprints, and the fox marks the company used over the decades. The goal wasn’t a costume-party retro logo. It was a modern identity with enough memory in it that longtime Denverites would feel the connection, and everyone else would just see a confident, elegant brand.

That research shaped the strategy: a modular, badge-style identity that could revive legacy equity for instant credibility, work from print to digital and from signage to swag, and become a business asset in its own right.

The Work

The identity system grew to 54 elements, built around a small family of marks that each have a job:

  • The leaping fox, redesigned as an homage to the historical Fox Photo mark, for packaging, stickers, and moments that want a little nostalgia.
  • A primary geometric fox, a clean, angular mark for subtle applications such as exterior signage, where a low-key presence was the point.
  • Badge-style lockups, a set of round and hexagonal seals that carry the full name, Denver origin, and the photography-and-video promise, sized for everything from a mug to a wall.
  • A palette pulled from the studio itself: the fox orange, warm off-white, black, plus the studio’s own color-gelled lanterns for social and campaign work.
  • The website, foxphotostudios.com, built to show the space, take bookings, and field membership inquiries from day one.

Retro character balanced with elegance, and an aesthetic that sits comfortably next to Bold Brand’s own.

The rollout was staged on purpose. Identity work ran June through August 2025. A soft preview on Instagram in late summer built curiosity while the swag and signage were produced, and the full identity was unveiled at the grand opening in October 2025: exterior signage, coffee mugs, sticker sheets, and the studio dressed for its first guests.

The Results

The launch did exactly what it was built to do: create interest, awareness, and early adoption. The grand opening drew more than 50 attendees. The campaign added 85 new subscribers to the Bold Brand list and 45 new subscribers to the Fox Photo Studios list, from a rental-only prospect base that started at 45. The whole effort landed about 10% under its $3,000 budget, with the identity design produced in-house.

The bigger number came after. Since launch, Fox Photo Studios has been tied to more than six figures of new project revenue: headshot systems, executive portraits, product shoots, and podcast sessions that happen in a space with its own name on the door.
